EXPLORE THE RESORT
Goonarook Lagoon:
Goonarook Lagoon is a great spot for a picnic. Relax by the water or take a dip. A gas BBQ, outdoor setting, toilet block and pontoon are situated in this area.
Koala Habitat:
Traditionally koalas inhabited the area and are still seen occasionally. Clayflat basin location has been selected for a koala habitat. Species of eucalyptus planted include: canaliculate, patintenervis, paniculata, tereicornis. The trees will take a few more years to grow to the necessary size to provide the re-introduced koalas with food.
Moonabung Walking Trail:
The walk requires a medium to high level of fitness and takes approximately 1 to 2 hours, depending on your level of fitness. It starts at the marked entrance way 100M from the entrance of Eaglereach resort, and contains steep up and down climbs along the escarpment face through volcanic rock formations and grass trees. Once at the end you will find yourself at the Central resort Facilities. Please remember to take plenty of drinking water.
White Rock walking trail (Rainforest)
Venture down over the numerous steps into the luscious sub-tropical rainforest. Wander amongst the Moreton Bay Fig, Strangler Fig, Grass Trees, Epiphytes, Blue Fig, Pink Gum, Vines and ground ferns and other flora and rest at the Bushmans Humpy. The walk takes about 1 hour and requires medium to high level of fitness.
POLICIES
The resort is an eco-tourism resort and as such you will have a different experience to that of many other resorts. Being eco-tourism, nature is the first consideration and we humans need to be mindful.
As such there are a few fundamental rule, no hunting, no shooting, no trail bikes, no pets, no speeding….these simple rules are necessary to make your visit memorable and at the same time preserve the wonderful native wildlife and flora.
“Conserve water” is another sign you will notice in our cabin. This is important as being on the top of a mountain without any running water we rely on tank water collected from our roof. The tank water is filtered and has a great taste, makes your hair softer…but please use it in moderation. Keep your showers brief, use plugs provided in basins and sinks. No splashing or diving in the resort swimming pool. No car washing. The water supply comes from a pressurised pump.
Native animals are everywhere in this natural habitat, and of course they are all protected. Please keep the doors closed to reduce their intrusion and do not leave food or scraps in or around the cabin.
Courteous Behaviour:
While you are in the “bush” you still have neighbours and like you they have come to the resort for a relaxing and enjoyable time- not to be disturbed by loud parties or rowby behaviour. Please be mindful of others you share the resort with – remember the wildlife does not enjoy loud noises either. Failure to comply can lead to your early exit from the cabin and the resort.
Native Animals:
Guests of the resort share the surrounding bushland with hundreds of birds and animals. Most of the birds roost quietly in the treetops at night after presenting you with plenty of opportunities to see their beauty during the day. As darkness falls, native animals wake up, start feeding and socialising. Small marsupials such as Antechinus, Bandicoots, Field mice, Posums and gliders are abundant. Whilst they will mostly stay outside and merely scuttle over the rooftop, you should not leave doors and windows open or food uncovered, these small animals may be tempted inside.
After Hours:
As you are aware this is an unhosted cabin and unmanned resort.
Mountain Escape acknowledges and respects Aboriginal people as the state’s first people and nations and recognises Aboriginal people as the traditional owners and occupants of New South Wales land and water.
